F.A.Q

Q. What do you mean when you say that Optimizer is a "Strategy Execution Tool"? Why should that be important to us?

A. Many organizations devote substantial time and finances to a Strategic Planning process, only to find the process "derails" shortly after the plan is drafted. A year later, the management team is sitting around the same table discussing the same issues… with little or no progress. Optimizer drives the Strategic Plan down through the organization; then makes activity and results a visible, ongoing reality. If progress is falling behind plan, managers can take corrective action without waiting for quarterly or year-end reviews.

Q. We've looked at performance measurement systems before. What makes Optimizer different?

A. Although Optimizer™ includes strong performance management functionality, it also provides an integrated tool for linking group and individual performance to strategic goals. Optimizer provides a reference base of individual competencies; allowing management to plan for growth and succession. Optimizer can be used as a human resources management tool; but our clients often find its greatest value in strategy execution.

Q. What are the advantages to me of a web-based system?

A. Being web-based means you and your team can access, review and update information at any time of the day or night, from anywhere in the world. This is a great feature for multi-location organizations, and for managers who travel extensively, or who want to stay informed when they are out of the office.

Q. Doesn't an information-rich system like Optimizer tend to foster micro-management?

A. Optimizer does not create a management style; it enhances the style a manager already uses. For hands-off managers, its scoreboard presentation allows managers to quickly and easily identify and manage high-priority activities and results. For the more hands-on style of manager, all of the details are at your fingertips.

Q. Isn't the process of entering the goals, activities, etc. into the system tedious and time-consuming? OR We'd like the results, but we're so involved with day-to-day operations that we don't have time to load and monitor a system like Optimizer - what do you suggest?

A. Typically, organizations that are goals-focused are managing this information already - but they are not doing it as effectively or efficiently as they could with Optimizer. Because Optimizer is completely client-driven, you can track as much information, or as little, as your organization and managers prefer. Although implementing Optimizer will take time initially, you will recoup this time and more - through more efficient management - within a few months of use.

Q. How do we determine what information forms our Key Success Factors, Key Performance Indicators, Milestones, etc.?

A. The titles and definitions you use for the various reporting levels of Optimizer are your choice. Customize them to suit your preferences and culture. Your Empresit support team can help you with titles, definitions and parameters if you are having challenges.

Q. Is my information protected from subordinates, and from other same-level of lower-level managers?

A. Password access allows users to review and update only their personal information and that of their group and subordinates. Only you and your superiors have access to your information. Exceptions to this guideline are shared-responsibility items, or where cross-functional access is predetermined by the client.
